Rock Salt

The recovering of pure salt from a stowing material containing impurities is done with a CommodasUltrasort plant, fed with 16 t/h of freshly mined salt in a size range of +8/-22 mm.

Extensive wet processing is no longer necessary, considerable energy savings and substantial environmental benefits are achieved.

As a consistent advancement of recognition and sorting technology it has become possible to separate very fine salt of +2.5/-6 mm at a purity previously unknown.

A large proportion of the mined rock is worthless stone. This run of mine (ROM) must be transported, crushed, milled and classified multiple times during the beneficiation process. This is a significant expense that can be reduced if a large proportion of the waste rock can be removed after the primary crushing or even underground.

Rock salt, for example, is successfully separated underground. In the Stetten salt mine in Germany, only the sorted salt is hoisted to surface after the dry mechanical sorting process takes place underground using CommodasUltrasort technology; the waste material remains in the mine for use as backfill.
